Global learning, in my work, is not travel. It is a commitment to designing learning that reaches people whose languages, contexts, and infrastructures are too often treated as edge cases.
My path into instructional design ran through language. Teaching Swahili, studying Applied Linguistics, and working in computer-assisted language learning shaped how I think about every course I touch: who can participate, in which language, on what device, and at what cost.
That is why localization work—such as supporting the Swahili language pack for Moodle—sits alongside course design in my portfolio. An interface in an unfamiliar language is a barrier before a single lesson begins.
Access should not depend on which language you happen to speak.

Designing technology-supported language practice that increases meaningful exposure, interaction, and feedback rather than simply digitizing drills.
Swahili Language Education
Teaching Swahili in higher education, developing materials, and supporting learners in building genuine communicative capability.
Moodle Swahili Language Pack
Maintaining Swahili localization since 2011 by coordinating contributors, reviewing translated strings, and sustaining language resources in the Moodle open-source ecosystem.
STARTALK
Participation in grant-supported critical-language programming focused on instruction and teacher development.
Fulbright-Hays Initiatives
Participation in grant-supported international education initiatives connecting language, culture, and pedagogy.
African Language Pedagogy
Researching technology-enhanced assessment and instructional design for African languages, including digitally under-resourced contexts from K–12 through higher education.
